After meeting your guide in the hotel lobby, you will set off to explore the natural, historical and cultural monuments of Mangystau.

The first stop is the Kapamsay Canyon, which is surrounded by greenery even in the dry season. Kapamsay is located on the Tupkaragan Peninsula. At the bottom of the canyon, there once flowed a long, narrow and deep river, which eventually dried up. The canyon was named after the great batyr (warrior) Kapam. In the Kapamsay Canyon, there were workshops where flint tools were made, which can now be used not only to make jewelry, but also to purify drinking water.

Your next stop will be a sacred place – the underground Shakpak-Ata mosque, which was carved into a chalk cliff. Hundreds of years ago, sacred ceremonies with Sufi dances and healing magic were held in the Shakpak-ata mosque. Shakpak-ata is unique in that it is the only mosque in the region with inscriptions and drawings. Analysis and translation of the texts showed that most of them are pilgrims’ notes about their visit. The inscriptions are made in Farsi, Turkic and Arabic, and belong to residents of Andijan, Bukhara, Khiva, Astrakhan, Kazan and other cities of Asia. The earliest inscription was made 300 years ago.

Then there is an organized break and lunch.

After that, you will proceed to the next object – the chalk canyon of Akespe. It is curious because here you can find fossilized teeth, vertebrae and bones of sharks or ancient fish. Limestone creates interesting shapes resembling the outlines of various ancient or mythical animals, among which you can see a gorilla, a dove, a falcon or a dragon. According to legend, the Akespe Mountains are frozen sheep. Once upon a time, an orphan boy lived here, to whom the locals trusted their flocks. Early in the morning he went into the steppe, and late in the evening he returned back. One day he fell asleep in the field, and when he woke up, he did not find any sheep, but only saw white mountains around him, similar to a flock.

The final point of the route will be the road to the Valley of Balls (Torysh), which has become the pearl of Mangystau nature. The Valley of Balls is a place where nature has scattered hundreds of stone spheres of different sizes across the steppe. These mysterious formations resemble giant eggs, meteorites or fossil artifacts. Surprisingly, the balls have a distinct core. The size of the balls varies from tiny marble stones to huge boulders the size of a car.

You complete your trip by returning to your hotel in Aktau.
